Since lockdown was introduced at the beginning of January, rates of the virus have fallen to such low levels in the area that all three districts that make up West Kent: Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge & Malling and Sevenoaks, have some of the lowest rates of infection in the 315 local authority areas that make up England.
The latest figures from Public Health Engalnd show in the seven days to February 12, there were 77 recorded infections of the virus that causes Covid-19 in Tunbridge Wells, 76 in Sevenoaks, and just 56 in Tonbridge & Malling.
The rate of infection per 100 people – used to compare rates of infection in different areas – see Tunbridge Wells [64.9] with the 19th lowest infection rates in the country.
Sevenoaks [62.9] is 18th and Tonbridge & Malling [42.4] has the sixth lowest rates of the virus in England.
Torridge in Devon [11.7] has the lowest levels of infection in the country with just eight recorded cases in the week to February 12.
The highest rates are in Middlesbrough [318.5] where there were 449 new cases recorded over the seven days.
Across Kent, the rate per 100,000 has fallen to just 85.4 with 1,351 cases reported in the seven days to February 12.
Swale has the highest levels in the county with the rate of infection at 107.3 with 161 cases recorded over the seven days.
