WEDNESDAY
The Beautiful Burrswood art exhibition launches today with a private view happening from 6.30 to 8.30pm in the Orangery. Pop along, enjoy a glass of fizz and some canapés and browse the paintings and photos which depict Burrswood’s scenic beauty through the seasons. Tickets for this exclusive event cost £20 and the exhibition, which is free from tomorrow, runs until June 30. For more information visit www.burrswood.org.uk
Just started at the Trinity theatre gallery is a show entitled A Tunbridge Wells Trio in Paint and Print. As its name suggests, the exhibition features three local artists who have collaborated in order to showcase a variety of work inspired by local landscapes which ranges from oil paintings to linoprints. THURSDAY
The Calverley Adventure Grounds (CAG) is running its Jam Jar Challenge for children throughout June. To get involved, find a jam jar and think of ways you can raise money to fill it. Spare jam jars and information sheets can be collected from Perk & Pearl café. Today both Caffe Nero branches in Tunbridge Wells are holding a fundraising day where children can decorate their jam jars from 10 to 4pm. Penshurst Place continues its British Mammals trail all this week. On until Saturday June 4, it helps children learn all about wildlife and how to make your garden a friendly space for bugs, birds and bees to frequent. The trails run from 10.30am to 5pm and there are special crafting sessions from noon until 4pm at The Old Coach House.
This evening at Trinity there will be a film about the intriguing history of the Teatro Alla Scala in Milan. The Temple of Wonders charts the impressive history of this 238-year-old opera house, which has seen composing greats including Verdi and Rossini and operatic stars like Maria Callas perform there. It also reflects upon the many social and political events which occurred at La Scala.
Jazz on The Pantiles continues its summer run this evening with the Trudy Kerr Quartet playing. If you want a lively evening of fine music and lots of great atmosphere then this is the place to be.
FRIDAY
If you’re nuts about knitting then Rusthall’s Knit and Natter group is for you. Today and the next two Fridays it’s hosting three special sessions where members can make a royal-themed creation to commemorate The Queen’s 90th birthday. The group, which is free to attend, meets at Rusthall library from 2-4pm every Friday.
This weekend and next Badsell Park Farm will be holding an exhibition of work done by a group of seven artists based at the historic farm’s studios in Paddock Wood as part of the South East Open Studios project. The show is free but proceeds from the sale of any artwork will go to the Kent, Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance. There will be a variety of paintings, drawings and ceramics to browse and buy. If you want to get fit for summer then don’t forget about the free 5k park run that happens every Saturday at 9am in Dunorlan Park. Arrive ten minutes earlier to register your details if you haven’t taken part before.
The Tonbridge baseball team will be in action every Saturday at midday as they fight to retain their National A Championship title. You can watch them at their Deaconsfield ground in The Slade.
Sussex Country Gardener will be hosting a fun afternoon for little ones in Mark Cross from 11am to 3pm. As well as face painting, crafting and a petting farm, there will also be a Tractor Ted bouncy castle, falconry demonstrations and a BBQ. Tickets cost £5 for children, adults go free. Tonight singer Richard Grainger will be performing at Tonbridge Folk Club. Hosted at Ye Olde Chequers Inn on the High Street, the event starts at 8pm and finishes at 11pm. Fellow singers and musicians are all welcome.
TUESDAY
The late Alan Rickman’s final film Eye in the Sky on at Trinity today. It focuses on the complications that arise when a planned drone missile attack on a group of terrorists is stalled due to a nine-year-old girl entering the kill zone. Alan Rickman plays Lieutenant General Frank Benson while Helen Mirren stars as his boss Colonel Katherine Powell. Showings are at 11am, 2pm and 8pm.
At 5pm there will be another wildlife event put on by the park rangers at the Grosvenor and Hilbert Park. This evening it’s a Walk and Talk About Bees and local expert Dr Ian Beavis will be on hand to answer questions relating to them after a stroll around the grounds. The Carnival of the Animals
Kidenza presents The Carnival of the Animals at the EM Forster theatre in Tonbridge on Sunday at 3pm. Composed by Camille Saint-Saens, this famous piece will be performed by an orchestra of young musicians and further enhanced by Kidenza’s colourful digital animation.
