WEDNESDAY

The National Gardens Scheme (NGS) gives exclusive access to a number of both public and privately owned gardens. There will be plenty of their events happening in the area over the summer but today Hole Park in Rolvenden is open especially for NGS supporters. Tonight and tomorrow night at the Moonlight drive in cinema at the Hop Farm you can catch My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. THURSDAY
Find out more about the rich history of Tunbridge Wells by participating in The Pantiles guided walking tour. Starting at 10.30am at the Tourist Information office in the Corn Exchange, it lasts one hour and takes in historic sites such as the Chalybeate Spring and King Charles the Martyr Church. Tickets cost £5 and are available from the tourist office.

Every Thursday in May Scotney Castle will host a series of special Rhododendron walks. The Pantiles Market takes place today and tomorrow so make sure you pop along to stock up on all your seasonal foodie treats and locally brewed craft beers.

The Pestalozzi charity, based in Sedlescombe, launches its Big Ladybird Bake Sale today. So get together with your coffee morning pals or organise a special event in your community this May in order to contribute to Pestalozzi’s vital work which helps give children from developing countries a proper education. SUNDAY
Today there will be a Farmers’ Market in Tonbridge. Held every second Sunday of the month from 9.30am to 1.30pm in Sovereign Way there are over 70 specialist stalls selling their gourmet treats and seasonal offerings.

The annual Speldhurst pram race takes place today in order to raise money for the Kent, Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance and Speldhurst primary school. Registration is open from 11am with the race starting at midday. For more information visit www.speldhurst.org/pramrace

If you haven’t already visited the Pacific Northwest Coast photography exhibition at Bedgebury Pinetum there’s still time to catch it. The show is a result of a three week seed collecting project which took samples from some of the world’s oldest, rarest and tallest trees dotted along the Pacific Northwest coast as part of Bedgebury’s international tree conservation programme. Stone Cross House in Crowborough is another local property which will be opening to the public as part of the National Gardens Scheme (NGS) today. Situated in nine stunning acres, NGS supporters will be treated to a majestic array of seasonal floral splendour including azaleas, camellias and rhododendrons.

MONDAY
Knole will be hosting a special historical lecture today entitled Coach and Horse: From Kent to Moscow in the 16th and 17th century which reveals the links between the Jacobean heritage of Knole House and a Russian coach which went on to change the way people travel and became a status symbol. www.nationaltrust.org/knole

Continuing the celebrations for Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary the Kino cinema in Hawkhurst will be showing a special screening of Globe on Screen’s Measure for Measure at 7.45pm. The Bard’s lesser known work focuses on the issues of corruption, morality and innocence and is beautifully brought to life by esteemed director Dominic Dromgoole in his last production for The Globe. www.kinodigital.co.uk

TUESDAY
A new exhibition entitled Theatre of War runs until May 28 at Trinity. The work by Kent artist Dawn Cole centres around the diaries, photographs and recipes her great aunt Clarice Spratling kept while she was a voluntary aid detachment nurse in France during the first world war.

A stellar cast including Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford star in the political film Truth which is showing at Trinity today at 11am, 2pm and 8pm. Centring around a US political scandal where TV channel CBS accused President George W Bush of having a questionable military background, it’s both powerful and gripping.

PICK OF THE WEEK

Jazz on The Pantiles

This popular musical event, now sponsored by Tunbridge Wells’ new hotel One Warwick Park kicks off its summer run this evening and will be on every Thursday until September 29. The live music begins at 7pm at the bandstand with the Carey Williams Trigwell Trio so make sure you’re there.
