Did you know that One Warwick Park Hotel boasts the only four-tier afternoon tea in town? Molly Miller reveals what makes it so unique – especially at Christmas
Come December families around Tunbridge Wells begin filling their diaries with festive traditions in preparation for Christmas Day. From paying a visit to Santa Claus, to exploring magical elf trails, there’s no end to the ways in which people choose to celebrate the most wonderful time of year thanks to all our local seasonal events.
One particular activity that we’re more than happy to see make the list is Christmas Afternoon Tea. Special throughout all seasons, this teatime treat is a sure way to keep spirits high and have fun with loved ones whilst enjoying delicious sweet, savoury and festive cheer.
This Christmas, join us for afternoon tea with a delicious seasonal twist
The quintessentially British tradition introduced by the 7th Duchess of Bedford includes fresh-cut finger sandwiches, warm scones with fresh cream and jam and homemade cakes, perfectly accompanied by hot tea.
But as the festive celebrations loom, the decadent affair loved by all is given a touch of Christmas magic by the chefs at One Warwick Park who’ve introduced delicious seasonal twists to the sweet and savoury delights.
With a spread that replaces traditional egg and cress with honey roast ham, and sweet macaroons with sticky ginger loaf cake, what else goes into the perfect Christmas afternoon tea at OWP? Well, we’re glad you asked…
Plenty of fizz
Who said afternoon tea should stop at tea and scones? Christmas is all about indulging, which is why no festive treat is complete without a glass of fizz! Toast with some prosecco or Champagne and you’ll be well on your way to kicking off the festivities.
Tea, coffee, or both!
At afternoon tea, only the perfect brew will do, especially during the cold winter when any excuse goes to enjoy a cup. Whether you’re a coffee lover or a tea drinker, both have a spot firmly secured in the tradition and are the perfect pairings for scones and cake.
Savoury favourites with a seasonal twist
Fabulous fillings are a sure way to impress during afternoon tea, but when it comes to Christmas, seasonal sandwiches are the star of the show. Think honey roast ham with Dijon mustard or brie, bacon, and cranberry for the ultimate festive flare.
Festive sweet treats
As well as savoury bites, nothing beats sweet treats at Christmas time. Classic seasonal flavours such as ginger, orange and sherry make for the perfect festive touch when enjoying a Christmas afternoon tea.
