Alphabetty donates 100th tutu to young girl for dance festival

ALL TOGETHER The Comrades Marathon is a South African tradition

A LOCAL company that makes classical ballet tutus is celebrating after creating 100 dresses for the Royal Tunbridge Wells Dance Festival next month.

Jane Parker’s firm Alphabetty Designs reached a new record production total. So she decided to give away the 100th tutu, and asked local dance schools who are taking part in the festival at the Assembly Hall on February 11-19 to send in their nominations.

The tutus are all custom-made and fitted, and cost from £110 to £290.

The prize went to six-year-old Ellie Nicols of the East Sussex Dance Studio.

“She’d been borrowing a tutu that did not fit and had to be sewn in for each performance,” said Mrs Parker.
