THE Great British Dog Walk at Ightham Mote attracted more than 350 walkers and 250 canine accomplices in support Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
It was the first time that the medieval manor house and its environs have been incorporated into the national campaign, as the charity celebrates its 35th anniversary.
Davina Morgans, Community Fundraising Manager for Kent, said: “We had a really good turn-out at Ightham Mote for our first ever Great British Dog Walk here.
Hearing loss can be devastating, leading to a lack of independence, loss of confidence, reduced self-esteem and feelings of anxiety which can lead to loneliness, isolation and often depression.
Hearing Dogs can transform people’s lives by providing a special kind of independence and companionship..
Catherine Broughton from Hawkhurst says: “Having Beni as my constant companion has restored my confidence, which I lost along with my hearing.
“I no longer worry about missing the doorbell, burning the dinner or not responding to texts on my mobile, as Beni alerts me to all the sounds I need for my safety.
“I’m also relaxed when we’re out and about together – his Hearing Dog uniform not only flags up my disability but also sparks conversations about what part he plays in my life.”
