MOVES are underway to set up a new Women’s Institute in the mid-Tonbridge area.
The idea comes after Erica Vickerman found herself unable to join the existing WIs in the town because they were oversubscribed.
“I have tried to join the last couple of years and have missed out due to restricted numbers. So I thought about starting one myself,” said Erica.
She is keen to recruit volunteers to fill committee roles such as treasurer, secretary and president.
The committee would convene once a month and attend member meetings when possible.
Erica added: “My vision for Mid-Tonbridge WI is to empower women to be the best they personally can, to meet new friends and have something outside any role a woman may have in life as wife, mother, worker, carer, daughter, grandparent, sister.”
There are currently three branches of the WI in the town: North and South Tonbridge and Cage Green.
