TWO town centre buildings are being considered for residential development by Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council [TMBC].
The sites include a building on River Walk, which was formerly home to the Citizens’ Advice Bureau.
The other, on River Lawn Road, is adjacent to the Teen and Twenty Club site, which itself is set to be sold to make way for a ‘state of the art’ medical centre.
They have been identified as suitable for ‘high quality apartments or mews type properties’.
TMBC Leader, Nicolas Heslop said: “Any purchaser of the sites at River Lawn and River Walk will need to meet the Council’s specific requirements in relation to affordable housing as part of any planning application.
“For urban areas such as Tonbridge town centre, our policy requires that any housing development of 15 units or more provides a minimum of 40 per cent affordable housing, or a commuted payment in exceptional circumstances.”
The estimated value of these assets are not publicly released. Approvals of the sales will be discussed at a TMBC Cabinet Meeting on Thursday February 9 when they meet to debate the forthcoming budget from April 2017/18.
