Dinosaur on course to join golf club

AN 18-HOLE dinosaur themed crazy golf course is set to open in Tonbridge by Easter this year.

The 20,000 sq ft site will be built within the existing area of the Tonbridge Golf Centre in Cannon Lane and will cost between £400,000-£500,000.

The Jurassic park type attraction will be aimed at children under 12, and hopes to attract around 50,000 visitors a year.

Golf Centre owner, James Jones, 47, said: “The dinosaur idea came from the fact that it is something children will really love.

“We want to open by Easter so we are doubling up on the manpower to get it finished.”

He described Tonbridge, where he has lived all his life, as a ‘good catchment area’.

The course will include a model of a crashed helicopter, a three metre animatronic T-Rex figure and a large water feature.

The owner said he originally wanted the dinosaur to be seven metres tall, but this proved to be ‘slightly too big’ for practical reasons.

Planning permission for the development was granted last month after the golf centre applied in March last year.

It is not the first attempt that Mr Jones has made at subverting the game of golf. Two years ago the centre began offering a ‘Footgolf course’, in which players kick footballs into an oversized hole.
