THE Chief Constable of Kent Police had his contract extended by three years. It means Alan Pughsley will now head the force until 2022, having stepped up to the role in 2014 on a five-year contract.
With over three decades in the police force already under his belt, Mr Pughsley was honoured with The Queen’s Policing Medal last year. He has overseen a run of ‘good’ and ‘outstanding’ ratings in recent reports reviewing Kent Police by the PEEL programme, which assesses police effectiveness, efficiency and legitimacy.
Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew said: “In the spring, I will be publishing my Police and Crime Plan, which sets out the priorities for the Chief Constable to deliver against. I have spoken with Mr Pughsley about the future on many occasions, and have total confidence in his ability to deliver against those priorities. That is why I have taken the decision to offer him the maximum contract extension available to me.”
Mr Pughsley said: “I am very proud of what the force has achieved, which has been delivered by outstanding, brave and utterly professional officers and staff.”
