VOLUNTEERS flung themselves off a 114m-high structure in London to raise more than £10,000 for a local charity.
The team of 44 fundraisers took part in an abseiling challenge from the top of the ArcelorMittal Orbit at the Olympic Park in aid of Demelza Hospice Care for Children, which provides vital care for the seriously ill.
The Orbit stands higher than the Statue of Liberty and Big Ben.
The majority of the group had never abseiled before, and the money they raised will go towards helping the hospice to support the 650 families in their children’s centres, including those in Kent and East Sussex.
Demelza’s Tamsyn Clark,said: “It was an incredible experience, and I’m so delighted to have been part of this fantastic group. “We rely so heavily on the generosity and commitment of people taking part in challenges like this to raise the £10.5million we need annually, we couldn’t exist as a charity without them.”
