THE Tots & Co toddler group at St Philip’s Church, Tonbridge, celebrated its 40th birthday last month by holding a tea party for previous leaders, helpers and families.
Liz Wood, who has been running the group for 17 years, said: “It was lovely for leaders to be reunited after many years and to meet up with previous families again.
“We had a fun time making an autumn leaf wreath, bouncing balls in the autumn wind on a parachute and singing songs together.”
The group for under-fives was formerly known as Mums & Toddlers, based at Cage Green Church, and Linda Beesley, who set up the original group in 1977, came to the party.
Linda said: “It was lovely to be at Tots’ 40th and to see such an amazing group. It has grown and flourished under Liz’s amazing leadership and enthusiasm.
“It’s a lovely safe haven for mums and children,” she added, “especially needed if mums are feeling frazzled!”
Mother Lucy Bullett added to the tributes, saying: “I loved Tots because it was so small and friendly. We miss coming here.”
She added: “As we used to help set up, my little boy came to feel a real sense of belonging and was delighted to help get the toys out and put them away at the end, and it gave him a clear sense of responsibility, which he loved!”
Tots & Co meets at St Philip’s Church, Salisbury Road, Tonbridge on Wednesdays from 1.15-2.45pm.
