THE town of West Malling celebrated its largest ever Christmas Lights Festival this year in association with the local Chamber of Commerce.
From 11am to 5.30pm, a record crowd of several hundred filled the High Street and Swan Street enjoying reindeer, Santa’s grotto, an ice rink, a bungee trampoline, a merry-go-round and food and drink.
On a huge stage, comperes Double Trouble introduced performances by boy band Sakyi4, female duet Two Tone, Leah Sullivan and local dance schools.
A Balloon Race was organised by The Post Office, which also won the award for Best Large Window Dressing for owner Harj Handa. Susanne Dackombe’s shop, Chocolate Umbrella, scooped the Small Window award.
The day ended with Penny Nicholls of Age Concern and the Mayor of Tonbridge & Malling, Roger Dalton, switching on the Christmas lights at 5pm, together with character Olaf from the film Frozen.
